Neurodivergent BrAInstorming: How to Achieve Flow State Every Time

Ever feel like your brain is overflowing with ideas that just won’t settle?

Of course it does, you’re neurodivergent.

I totally get that. As someone with AuDHD and no mental imagery (called Aphantasia), thinking things through can sometimes feel like trying to catch fog. That’s exactly why I write so much. Writing for me isn’t just about putting words on paper; it’s how I clarify my thoughts. It’s like my fingers are doing the thinking for me.

But computers are distracting and I can’t sit still.

Now, let’s talk about the real purpose of AI.

It’s here to give us more time to create and enjoy life, not just to make us more productive. Our goal here is always to enhance our lives with these technologies, never just to improve our work output.

Here’s my personal method for tapping into a guaranteed flow state. If you’re like me, being stationary might stifle your creativity. I need movement to think clearly. So, what’s my solution? I take it outside.

You’re walking through the forest in the PNW, surrounded by its beauty, recording your thoughts aloud with an app like Otter.ai. It looks like you’re talking on the phone to someone but you aren’t. And this isn’t an ordinary walk; it’s a flow state brainstorming session. You let your thoughts flow—diving into tangents, exploring every impulse. This walk turns into a verbal mind map, where every thought is captured live. The trees inspire cross-contextual thinking and you get so deep into the essence and rabbit holes that you lose track of all time.

But here’s the crucial part: When you return, you have a rich transcript full of raw, unfiltered insights.

That’s where the power of ChatGPT comes in.

You then provide it with the transcript describing all these thoughts, and ask for help in organizing and formatting them.

I never use ChatGPT to do the initial research or thinking—that’s all me. This approach lets me use AI as a tool to refine and convey my ideas more effectively.

This method isn’t just a life hack—it transforms the creative process into something enjoyable again. It combines the joy of being in nature, the physical benefit of walking, and the cognitive freedom to explore every idea. Plus, it leverages AI to enhance what’s uniquely yours, not replace it. This is how we can use technology to truly amplify our creative potential and let our neurodivergent minds shine.
